Bonn is Germany's 19th largest city. Situated in the west of the country, on the river Rhine, some 16 miles south of Cologne, it was the capital of West Germany in the period 1949-1990 and the official government seat of a reunited Germany from 1990-1999. Despite the movement of many government institutions to Berlin, Bonn retains its position as a political and administrative center. For those seeking a hotel Bonn has plenty to offer, from 5-star establishments to budget-priced hostels. The majority of these are conveniently located, either within the historic city center or in close proximity to major transport links.

Bonn caters well for business visitors traveling to the city. Within many a hotel Bonn offers fully-equipped business centers. Such centers provide a full range of services and facilities for those wishing to conduct business. These include full secretarial support, speedy, expedient photocopying services, wireless internet access, access to fax machines, scanners and overhead projectors, along with services offering translation and video / 'phone conferencing facilities. In recent years, the city has also developed into a major conference venue. Modern facilities conform to international standards, whilst skilled conference management providers and a choice of well-managed Bonn hotels demonstrate a high level of expertise in congress organization. In addition to the facilities available within a hotel Bonn Airport is well equipped with business and conference facilities, with rooms for hire and office / IT equipment available. A nearby conference center, located on the airport grounds, has further, laudable business amenities.

With Bonn the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven in 1770, it is no great surprise that the famous, influential composer makes a significant contribution to the tourist attractions of the city. The Beethoven Monument, unveiled in August 1845, on the Munsterplatz, to celebrate the 75th birthday of the composer, is a large bronze statue. The Beethoven-Haus, the house in which Beethoven was born, now comprises a museum and the Chamber Music Hall. The museum exhibits selected items from the world's largest, privately-owned Beethoven collection. Instruments, original manuscripts and objects that are more mundane deliver a realistic view of the composer's life and work. The 1989 Chamber Music Hall is renowned for its exceptional acoustics and is widely regarded as an especially attractive concert hall.

At the heart of the city, the Bonn Art Museum features important works by expressionists from the Rhineland, a wide-ranging compilation of German post-war art, assembled methodically since 1945 and a range of temporary exhibitions.

The Botanical Gardens, part of Bonn University, have progressed from a formal garden of the Renaissance period to become Germany's most prestigious botanical gardens, housing over 10,000 different species of plants. The primary concerns of the gardens are research, education and conservation. Research projects include investigating plant evolution and cataloging plant diversity, whilst they are constantly seeking new ways to broadcast their information to a public becoming increasingly conscious of the environment. Endangered plant species are an important issue at the gardens, where local Rhineland species, such as the "Lady's Slipper" orchid, along with protected species from foreign countries are cultivated. For visitors, there is a regular program of guided tours during the months of spring and summer.

For those wishing to visit any of the city's many attractions and staying at a hotel Bonn lodgings providers offer some excellent, well-appointed hotels with a full range of amenities and services. These include modern, stylish, (generally) air-conditioned guest rooms with flat-screen TV offering satellite channels. Internet access is usually available but is often subject to a surcharge. Hotel restaurants offer good quality local and international cuisine, whilst the hotel bars present plenty of variety, with drinks ranging from German beer to fine wines, sourced both locally and worldwide.

Amongst annual events, the autumn Beethoven Festival is organized in Bonn in commemoration of legendary musician Ludwig van Beethoven. The festival attempts to develop a rapport with Beethoven and his peers, including Hector Berlioz, Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. Throughout the festival, concerts (some of which are broadcast worldwide) take place at the Chamber Music Hall (see above) and various other venues in the city, along with exhibitions, film screenings and lectures. Another annual event is Bonn's Christmas market. Illuminated storefronts help to enhance the festive spirit of the market, which offers delightful shopping for arts & crafts and culinary delights.
